Fifty years ago it was not uncommon to hear about race related violence, but to hear about it in 2007 is another story. There are many people who believe that racism is gone from the world and that people are just people. That is not the case in the town of Jena, where there was a problem at the local school.
The story is simple, one day two black students sat beneath ”the white tree”. The next day nooses were hung from the tree. The principal thought is was a prank and he did recommend the students responsible be expelled but a committee overruled it and they were only suspended.
This is not the worst part fighting between the students broke out and eventually lead to a huge fight between a group of black students and a single white student. The white student was throwing out racial comments to the black students who then proceeded with the fight. One black student, a football player is now waiting to know if he will be in jail for the next 20 years. All because of the color of his skin and an all white jury.
Are we really any better now then we were 50 years ago?

Who are you trying to say is just as bad, the black or the white? They both have their hand in the situation. I think they’ve both changed some, but the basis is probably still the same idea. Different cultures don’t mix very well.

It’s a problem across all races, not just blacks and whites. There are going to be people who believe that others are either out to get them or are worth less then they are.
I agree that different cultures do have a problem mixing, but if you look back on history thats all it has been, eventually it will work out, but it’s going to take a long time.
