$5,000 for being born?
Today during my daily routine surf around the Internet I saw a very short article on something that presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said. “Every newborn should get a $5,000 bond from the government. The reasons she gives for this are simple. The cost of college is skyrocketing along with the cost of buying a home. This is what the money could be used for once the child is 18. The catch they must finish high school.
Right now this is just an idea. I think a good idea if it can be done. Many people can not afford college out of high school. I was one of them. I refused to spend any money until I was sure of what I wanted to do, then a year later I figured it out and still could not afford it. Eventually I got into college for one reason. My father was sick and only made 8,000 that year. My parents were divorced so I had him fill out all the paperwork. The sad thing about this. I still had to pull out loans to pay for school. When my fathers and I combined income was only $15,000, sad right?
Like most programs I think this should be run by the federal government as state governments can not afford to do this at all. I know Michigan can’t, right now there facing a shut down because they can’t figure out how to create a budget. I have an idea. TAKE A PAY CUT! That would solve the problem. Of course we all know that will never happen.

The sad thing here is that it’s what Mary Poppins called a “pie crust” promise. Easily broken and not very doable. The congress is crying now about finding funds for several things. This would certainly add to that cry.
I think it IS a good idea. Perhaps the private sector could take up the slack on this. It would be difficult in the extreme to actually implement as well. But I still like the idea.
Maybe someday, it will come.
