Here in the US we are officially ending daylight savings time. Tonight we will all turn our clocks back an hour and get an extra hour of sleep. It’s a nice thought but as someone said to me once it would be much better on a Monday morning!
Recently I read about a study though that said ending Daylight savings time caused pedestrian deaths. I found it interesting as it made sense, but I’m waiting to see if they study it farther before I start to believe anything. What this study suggest is that people have a hard time adjusting to the early darkness and therefor do not pay as close attention to there surroundings. This is for both drivers and people who are out walking. More deaths are caused during the evening hours. I believe it said 37 deaths, compared to a decrees in deaths in the morning of 9 people. The article did go on to say that there was not this problem during the spring.
I know that daylight savings time effects me somewhat, it’s wasn’t so bad when I worked second shift as I went in when it was light and came out when it was dark no matter what time of the year it was. Now though I am noticing a little bit of a problem adjusting. But I’m usually good within a few days. Others I know have a hard time for about a month or more, my mother is always tired in the winter her body never quite adjust to the change.
