It’s hard looking at the news these days and watching so many homes just sitting there. I drive around my small town and there are at least 30 homes for sale, thats out of about 1000 that are in the town. I’m sure theres more back in neighborhoods I don’t’ go into. The city’s are worse. I drive threw Flint MI sometimes and it’s a sad sight. Now that the auto companies are pretty much gone and the few factories that are left are struggling Flint looks horrible and run down. Much like Detroit does in areas. Not all of Michigan has been hit hard. The people living in these areas may not agree with me, but Ann Arbor is doing well, with the move in of my now hated Google. The state capital of Lansing is also doing well. Grand rapids I think is one of the better cities mostly because of it’s location close to Chicago.
I know many people keep hearing on the news that the economy is okay, because people have jobs. Unfortunately they don’t see that here in Michigan many people have lost there jobs and moved out of state. If I could afford it and wasn’t in school. I may have by now too. The biggest problem with Michigan is that we were an auto state, the unions and auto workers demanded too much and now they have hurt everyone. My grandfather was paid $50 an hour to push a button. While my mother a teacher only makes $25,000 a year. While auto workers got there vacations and there second homes, my family and others struggled to put food on the table as the cost of everything went up. Now we are even worse off and the auto workers have no job. I hate to say it, but they did it to themselves.
