Once again I’m late. I just forgot what day it was, really!
Today though I wanted to talk to you all about different ways you can go green that are simple things to do. I’m actually happy I’m late writeing this as I got a great email from IVillage today about ways you can go green. In the article I checked out they had a list of different things you could do to go green. Like taking shorter showers, gardening with native plants and turning your computer off at night.
But did you know that there is something else you can do that will help not only the environment, but it could help you too. According to this article one hundred million trees are waisted on junk mail. Yes all of those unwanted ad’s we get waist that many trees. Did you know you can stop these things from coming to you? There are two websites they suggested using. The first will only cost you about a dollar, it’s called New American Dream. It will take you about 20 minutes to get everything filled out. Then you will print the letter and send it and your dollar off to the mailing lists that you chose. After that you should stop getting most of that junk.
The other site will have a professional do it for you. They are called Green Dimes and they do pretty much the same thing as the other site, they just do it for you
and charge you $20 to start, then you have to pay a refresh fee of $10 every year. When you sign up they will also plant 5 trees for you. On top of that they will plant one tree for each catalog you opt out of. They promise to keep you off the list so you don’t have to worry about being put back on. The other fun part is, anyone who lives or has lived in your home will benefit from the service too! So you can not only stop junk mail for yourself, you can also help stop it for other people.
The main reason we get junk mail is because companies sell our information. This includes credit cards, banks, product warranty cards, and contest and sweepstakes. They make there money selling your information. You can write to your credit card companies and banks and let them know you do not want your information sold. Other then that watch what you sign up for, make sure it’s a company you trust, because most contest are run just to get your personal information.
I plan on joining the Green Dimes site very soon. When I have the extra $20 to spend. They also offer an affiliate program if your interested. I’m still waiting to be approved.

If I recall correctly, there is a website/ mailing address you can go for to get your name taken off junk mail for free. Why pay for a service such as this.

yes there are a few sites where you can get off the mailing list for free. One of those sites I listed does that. The fee is not to them its to the people who provide the junk list I guess you could say.
I liked the one website because they will plant trees when you sign up. Many people live in areas where they can’t do that themselves its a way to give back to the environment. yes it cost, but it’s not really too bad.
