I live in the country and I love going out during the summer and looking at all the stars. I remember being a teenager and laying out on our trampoline and watching the meteor showers. It was fun and something I will always remember.
When I was really young I lived in the city and I remember asking why I couldn’t see the stars. My mother explained that the lights from the buildings made it so I could not see them. I asked my mom to make everyone turn them off. She said the couldn’t but now there is a way for anyone who wants to see. The Dark Sky Festival held in Harmony, Florida is a great way to check out the stars and learn a few things at the same time. The festival takes place on April 5th 2008. The will have many different things to talk about such as light pollution and telescopes so you can check out the stars . They also have a children’s area and live concerts and food.
Seeing a sky free from light pollution is an amazing thing. Nothing beats it, I have been very lucky to grow up where I did as I learned not only math and history, but I was able to learn about the stars and see them right out my back window.
