Kenny Chesney Upset?

Posted by Holly on May 19, 2008 under News

I didn’t watch the Country awards show last night, but I heard on the radio this morning that Kenny Chesney won the Entertainer of the year award, but still complained about how fans voted for the award. According to the radio station he said something along the lines of “all this means is that someone got more fans to click a button on the Internet.” The radio show host was upset with this as were the callers. I think the idea is great, but Kenny makes a very good point. With an Internet vote you can vote over and over again for the same person. Even if they log your IP address, you can still go somewhere else and vote or if you really strange and obsessed with your person winning you can use a proxy.

That is one reason why I get what he may have meant by his statement. The other is that some people may have voted for him, just to make sure another nominee didn’t win. People do things like that. I think being he won and made the statement that he really disagreed with how it was done. Again I like the idea of fans voting, unfortunately unless they start requiring addresses and you can only vote once with that address will the double voting go down. Even then it will still happen. It’s a risk you take when you do any type of online voting. Thats one reason we don’t do it for presidential elections.

  1. CrAzY Working Mom Said,

Although he does make a good point, I think that sometimes when an “academy” votes on who should win an award it is WAY different than how the public would actually vote. I didn’t vote for the category, but usually they do try their best to make sure that there is only one vote per household. But, then again as you said there are ways around this issue as well.

  2. Holly Said,

I thought about this a little after I wrote this post and I think if they wanted the fan involvement they should have added a fan favorite category or something. I think it would have avoided this whole issue.
