Last night I was reading an article that someone had written about children at the new Batman movie. Now they were pretty upset that at a midnight showing there were 5-10 year old’s. I also find that a little crazy for this particular movie. Yes it’s a treat for some, but at the same time does the kid want to see the movie or did the parents make them come because they wanted to?
this person had no problems with the children that were a little older as they knew how to behave, but the young ones don’t and at a midnight showing in a cramped theater they are tired and don’t car about the movie, personally I think anyone under the age of 10 should not have been there, there is a pg13 rating on it for a reason. No that does not me as long as the parent buys the ticket a 3 year old can get it. It means that your child should have the mental capacity of at least a 13 year old to see the movie.
I agree that parents now a days need a reality check when it comes to what movie ratings mean. G- everything is okay anyone can watch it.
- PG- probably not good for little kids but okay for the 5 and up crowd.
- PG13- explained earlier, but I will say it again, your child should have the mental capacity of at least a 13 year old to see the movie. (usually they don’t until they are at least 12)
- R-Restricted, in other words unless your child is 16 they should NOT see this movie.
- XXX- If your letting your kid watch this you are a bad parent.
Now that you know the rateing system, I have a story for you. I do movie audits where I count how many people watch a movie for a weekend. I audited the Sex and the City movie for 2 weeks. I saw a total of 9 kids 10 and under go into the movie and at least 17-25 that had to be 10-15. If you didn’t see Sex and the City and live under a rock, let me tell you a secret, there is a ton of nudity and sex in this movie. Something children of that age should not be seeing! I’m sure the one man who came to see it with his 9 year old sons will be wondering in about 3-5 years why his sons got a girl pregnant.
Anyway back to the Batman movie. This poster was told off in a few comments that some people can not afford a babysitter and a movie, well if that’s the case don’t see the movie because apparently you don’t have the money to spend. Wait a week or two and save so you can afford both, I know in this country saving is an unheard of concept, but come on! You really need to watch what your kids are watching. Oh and of course there is also the issue of the other 300 or more people that stayed up to watch the midnight showing paid 8-12 or more dollars to see it only to have a 5 year old kick them in the back every three minutes or have a child go running down the aisle screaming because the parent doesn’t want to watch them. In other words, think of the other people. I have personally told theaters that people are not watching their children and they have been kicked out because of it. Guess what parents, they can do that and I think more theaters should. That said if you can not get a babysitter and you must see the movie in the theater go during the day, when people expect kids to be there or at least wait a few days to go see it later at night.
This is my opinion, what are your thoughts?

People need to be more accountable for their kids. The lack of parenting skills these days is rampant. I think you hit the nail on the head.

Right on! I have a 4 year old and a 1 year old and would never dream of bringing them to an inappropriate movie. Up until last weekend, the last time my hubby and I went to the theater to see a movie was before my daughter was born.

I really think some parents forget that when you become a parent your wants and needs come second to what is best for your child. Sometimes you just have to give up things.

I agree 100% when my girls were smaller, my husband and I just stopped going to the movies. One year, we saw just one movie, on our anniversary date because my mother volunteered to babysit. When you have kids, you adjust and learn to love videos.
What gets me worst than toddlers and young children watching inappropriate movies is people who bring infants to the movies then won’t get up when they start crying. I’ve also seen people bring infants to the late showings. I think that is just plain selfishness on the part of the parents. Not only are movie theaters with their loud sound system bad for infants, think of all the germs they are being exposed to with all those people in there.

My husband went to go see the new Batman movie this weekend. Someone brought kids as young as 3 to that movie! WHAT???!!!
One lady I spoke with the other day said that local theaters used to have movies for moms - chick flicks, but kids were allowed so they could be kids and no expectations of a quiet movie were expected.

That would be a cool thing for a theater to do. Kids need to be kids, but when it comes to movies, you just don’t expect screaming kids at a PG13 movie.
