Congress Really Is Out Of Touch!
Friday, January 9, 2009 12:12I’m reading the article on yahoo today about Obama’s Stimulus plan and the issues that both parties have with it. Some I get others I just shake my head and wonder about. Example is this statement by a senator and budget committee chairmen, Kent Conrad:
“Twenty bucks a week. How much of a lift is that going to give?”
Well, for most people that would put a tank of gas in their car, or at least half of one. It would give them more food money, could pay an electric bill for someone living in a small aparmtent or it could buy someone a new shirt and pants if spent correctly.
I know I could use an extra $20 a week, though this plan will not effect me as I’m self employed. If it did though this is what it could pay for over a month, it would be an extra $80
- My insulin (if I still had insurance)
- My other medications
- Gas to get to school for 2 weeks and 2 meals ( I have to eat dinner out those 2 nights)
- One shirt or jeans if I find a sale for at least 35% off.
(If I go off insulin) gas for 3 weeks and 2 meals
Now I know my situation is different then others, I live with my parents and don’t have to pay a lot of bills though I do try to help out when I can. But for many people $80 a month is helpful. It may be the extra someone needs to buy clothes, buy their kids something or even pay for a family night out. I believe because of the small amount this is at a time we will see it spent on things other then paying off debt. Some will save it, but really who can right now. I know my family and I sure can not.
Really it must be nice to make so much that an extra $80 a month does not seem like much to you and you think it’s worthless. Really I think they should take a pay cut and see how everyone else lives.
