My Really Great But Not So Great Deal

Posted by Holly on Oct 15, 2008 under money, website review

Today I was looking once again at buy.com and found the computer I was originally going to get, the hp pavilion dv9925 with a 17 inch screen and web cam. Instead I bought the 15 inch version because it was 600 dollars not 900 dollars and I love it but now of course buy.com has the 17 inch one for about 600 dollars. It’s exactly like the one I have, just bigger and better. I miss my numbers on the right side and it would be nice to have them back. I may one day get another laptop just so I have 2, one for home and one for travel, yes this is crazy I know. That would be me though and if I can get it on sale then it’s even better!

I’m finding I’m slowly turning into a computer geek who loves not only finding great deals online, like at buy.com, but I have even started takeing apart computers and trying to rebuild them. Thats the other thing I like about this bigger computer, it has more memory on it. At least now I know how to change and add memory to my laptop, I know it’s not that hard but just 3 years ago I would not have even thought of doing it myself. Knowing me I’ll probably find a great deal on memory at buy.com, after I upgrade it.

Searching For Someone

Posted by Holly on Oct 10, 2008 under personal, website review

I am single and have been all of my life, yes I have never been in a relationship, but I have dated. Recently, okay well 3 years ago I decided to back away from the dating scene as it was not going well for me. A lot has happened since then and I’m thinking I may want to start dating before I’m 30. I use to have some profiles on dating sites, but I took them down. Now I’m thinking of putting them back up and one I want to use is True.com where you can sign up for a free account and search for free too. I hate sites where you have to pay to put things up because I never get anyone talking to me anyway. Yes even on the pay sites. I tried once and will never do that again.

With True.com you can sign up and have your profile up for free and then if you want to you can pay for extra stuff. I have found that sometimes people will find you on these sites that you actually know, but they didn’t know you were single. I even had a friend of mine marry a guy who found her on there, he worked with her, but didn’t know if she was single. He found her on True.com and asked her out the next day. How cool is that?

Markets, Money and Things

Posted by Holly on Oct 10, 2008 under business, money, personal, website review

The stock market is still falling and I really have been thinking about investing something soon. I don’t think it’s done yet so I’m going to wait just a little longer as I’m looking at getting things as cheep as possible and then leaving it there for a while. I’m not planning on investing much, but I want to get something going and have wanted to for years, so this is not new. right now is a great time to invest if your looking for long term because eventually the market will go back up.

I also have some bills to pay and I need to buy clothes as I’m losing weight again and not only will my clothing not fit soon, but my jeans are starting to wear out. I have had them for about 3 years so it’s understandable. Luckily I have a gift card to do that with and will only have to spend a little more. I’m heading over to Lane Bryantwho finally got a clue and gave out their $50 gift check that can be used on more then just normal priced items, so I will be buying clothing today! I need to splurge a little and buy nice clothing that makes me feel better about me. I think it may help my depression issue a little.

I also need to pay off more of my debt but after doing my budget it looks like I may have to only pay a little, but at least it will be something. I realized the other day I have $400 more then I thought because of my diabetes supplies, so I’m going to send them something this month and hopefully keep paying it. I feel horrible because most people could get that covered in a month or two me it could take a year or more to do. Luckily my aunt got me test strips for free so I have like a year supply right now and don’t have to worry about buying those!

I Need New Glasses

Posted by Holly on Oct 2, 2008 under website review

About a month ago my glasses broke, luckily it was just the frame, but the other day my contact tore and it was my last one. I had an appointment with the eye doctor but they billed my insurance wrong last time and now I can’t get an eye exam done for a few more weeks because of money and I can go somewhere else and get it done cheaper and with better customer service. I am really getting so tired of people who don’t do their jobs and have been thinking that maybe I will get my eyeglasses online at ZenniOptical.com. They have glasses that are very close to what I have and since my prescription is still okay I should be able to order new glasses just for now. I need something that will stay together, right now i have super glued the lens to the frame and it’s working but I don’t know how long that will last.

I love checking out their selection and they have even been featured on the Clark Howard Show so I figure it’s a good company and worth the time to check them out. The only downside to this is that I’m sure the eye doctor is going to refuse to give me the prescription information. So I may have to fight with them on that one, but I think it may be worth it. I’m so tired of having to spend $100 on eyeglasses that I need to see and to drive.

Stamp It Quick And Easy

Posted by Holly on Sep 30, 2008 under website review

I love being able to get things done quickly and easily and I really love how vista print has helped me to do that. You can get some great things there, like address labels, postcards and more, but I really love the idea of the Address Stamps that they have. They allow you to get things marked quickly without the worry that the label will come off once the item is sent out.

You can get a large and a small size stamp, really the size would depend on what you would use it most for, me I send out more packages then I do mail, so I would probably get the bigger one. I would probably end up getting both as the price is not bad at all and right now they are even offering more off of their product, just use Stamps50 and get 50% Off Small Rubber Stamps. Not a bad deal at all, and if your going to send out holiday cards they could really help you get the job done fast and easy. I have used vista print for a long time and am always happy with the products I get and the customer service I receive. I love their selection and how you can customize your order to get what you want and need, not what someone else does.

Do You Love Your Pets

Posted by Holly on Sep 18, 2008 under website review

If your as into animals as I am I would recommend you check out Zootoo a site just for you and your pets. This service is unique as you can post journals, find places to adopt pets and support different animal related causes in your area. You can even find products for your pets rated by people who have actually used them in their homes with their pets.

One of the best things that you can do with this site is help pets by helping the site donate food to shelters. You do this by being involved in the site and earning points for posting reviews and so on. Then you can donate those points to any shelter you choose. I love the idea and plan on writing a few reviews on products to help shelters in my area. The other great thing about this site is the list of samples you can get for your pet. I have already signed up to get a few of them and am looking forward to trying them out. If you love pets and animals you should check this site out too.

The Anniversary And Looking Back

Posted by Holly on Aug 28, 2008 under personal, website review

I’m sitting here watching CNN and Food Network, (Iron Chef is on!) and they keep talking about the anniversary of Martin Luther Kings speech. I keep thinking about how as a child in city schools I learned so much about that speech. I was once chosen to sing a wonderful rendition of Amazing Grace along with 4 other students from my elementary school in Ann Arbor. I remember thinking about all of the children around me and how they may not have been here if it hadn’t had been for that speech.

It is an amazing event both the speech and the fact that we now have a presidential nominee that is a black American. I say black because I was once told by a friend of mine that she was not African, she was a black American. She was not born in Africa, therefor she should not be called African. I agree, we need to break down barriers like that and just call all of us Americans.

The I have a dream speech for me has always meant something. As a child I felt I had much more in common with the black community then whites. I lived among them and was treated as one of them. Maybe I was a strange child and when I told one girl that I had to thank Martin Luther King for giving me my best friend. She cried and I smiled. At that time I truly believed that I would not have been the person I was if she had not been around.

So today as I sit here waiting to hear Obama speak I want to show how much respect I have for the people who fought, black and white and in between for rights for minorities and women. The world would be a much different place if you had not stood up and spoken out.
