Happy 4th Of July

Today is a day to spend with family and friends, it’s a day to remember why the USA is a great country and why we have what we have today. It’s a day to remember why we have the freedom we have and to of course eat a ton of great grilled food. Most of all today is a day that we celebrate 233 years of freedom from powers that wished to control us. Powers that didn’t want us to be heard and powers that became greedy. It’s also a time to remember our own voice and speak up so it will be heard.

I spent today with my family, at home. We had a small barbecue and did fireworks. We ate really good s’mores with dark chocolate Reeses peanut butter cups replacing the plain chocolate. Over all it was a fun day. I have many cute pictures of my nieces and nephew and of course of the s’more, doesn’t it look really good?

Life Without Internet

The last few days I have not had internet. I have managed to do a lot of cleaning, have now gotten my computer running better as I spend an hour clearing it out and I spent some time with my niece and little sister. Overall I got a lot of stuff that I have been trying to get done, done.

Now it’s back to work as usual, well kind of. I’m still going to try to make more time to be away from the computer and hopefully accomplish some things.

Internet Issues

I may not be able to post for the next few days as we are having problems with our internet company. They apparently can not do their jobs and are very lazy, resulting in their customers having everything shut off. We are not the only one’s as I am right now sitting in the library in town and have talked to 3 other people who have had the same problem.

I would love to say we are switching companies, but our phone company has a monopoly in our area, they are it and your stuck. I’m not thrilled and hopefully we can fix this, but it’s going to cost us money we don’t really have. Wish me luck, as I’m not eating for the next 2 weeks just so I can eat the 2 weeks after that.

Traveling In The USA

Many people think that traveling in the USA is something done by people who live in other countries. The truth is people who live here in the united states need to take a trip though it themselves. I have had the pleasure of visiting many states and hope to visit more. I have been to places like Arkansas, Maryland and Illinois. I have lived in Michigan, Colorado and Texas. I have traveled though many states like north Dakota, Kansas and Missouri, home of Hilton Promenade at Branson Landing and Hilton Branson Convention Center Hotel. Both very luxurious places to stay if your visiting the area. I have written about them before and the other day my little brother took a look at my blog to see what I did for a living, he saw on of the articles and I wrote on these hotels and informed me that he wanted to go to Branson to play golf. Apparently there are some great golf courses there and a friend of his is working at one over the summer.

I would love to visit there myself as I hear not only are there great golf courses, but great food, entertainment and shopping. I’m thinking if I have the time toward the end of this year to take a trip this may be somewhere I’ll go. Winter cold is something I’m hoping to get away from before I start school again, but we will have to wait and see if I have the money to travel.

Sustainable Saturday: An Architectural Farm

I found a blog post about this very interesting architectural concept called the Dragon Fly. It’s a self sustaining farm designed by Vincent Callebaut Architecture. This architectural farm will allow for living, laboratory and other work spaces along with providing food for the city surrounding it. It has been said that as we continue to grow as a population food will be harder to come by. We also as a society are trying to discard our dependence on oil to help save money and the environment. This could be a very good solution to getting food to major cities where ground space is limited.

Yes this looks huge, but I kind of like it. It’s interesting and since it sustains itself could be worth the cost to build it. What is your first reaction to this conceptual building, do you think this is the way of the future or just a fun design that will never happen?

Network Online, Find Jobs and Help

Everyone right now seems to be looking for jobs. It’s a hard time to find anything but if you think out of the box a little and do an online job search you will find that there are many places to apply. Check job boards and job listings sites and you will find that people are hiring. That said, what if your just looking for jobs part time and need the rest of your time to take care of kids or work another job. Well if your specialized in something you can check out Mavenlink, a site where you can use your skills to help people get jobs done.

Some of the request are as simple as printing up professional business cards, others require that you design a website or a landing page. One is for Mavenlink, they would like someone to create a user guide, unfortunately it’s already taken. This would be a great site for jobs for grads as it will get you some experience and real world projects to add to your portpholio.

This site is also a must for professionals as it allows you to get the projects you need done at a reasonable price. You also may be introduced to talent that you never would have known about before, giving you the edge against your competition.
