Making Money And Doing Too Much

Posted by Holly on Jun 27, 2008 under Uncategorized

I’m starting to think I have spread myself too thin. I now have 6 blogs, two new ones which I don’t do much on anymore and one that I post on sometimes but I like it so I want to keep it. I love blogging but I think the 2 new ones were just too much. The one I started so that I could write my poetry and all that. I may just post the rest of the poems I have and leave it until I feel like writing more. At least until next year when the domain is gone, then I’ll decide. The other I put up in place of my failed forum for something to have on there so that will be gone in a few months.

The sad part is, even though I’m thinking I’m spreading myself thin, I keep wanting to start a new forum, this one would either be a get paid to forum or just a regular forum with contest and maybe some revenue sharing, if I can find someone to set it up cheep or free (with a perk of free advertising “hint people”)

I wish I had the money to pay someone, I just don’t have that much extra right now. Maybe I can play with it and get it going. I just don’t know that much about php. I guess I may have to learn right. I just hope I’m not taking on too much. I know I’ll have help with the forum as there is a great group that I miss from Cash buddy cafe that is now not running.

I may try and see what I can do. Hopefully I can get it to work out okay.

Skinny women and the problems they cause

Posted by Holly on May 23, 2008 under personal

I was sitting on my sofa watching TV just a few minutes ago when a Victoria Secret commercial came on. Every time I see this commercial I think if I looked like that I wouldn’t be sitting here alone right now. If I looked like that I would have a job and people would like me. I’m 25 years old and I think this and now I understand why I have been so depressed since I was 12. It’s commercials and ads like these that have made me feel like I am worthless. I really hate it because if I lost weight I could look like these girls. I have flawless skin, except for some freckles and I have the pouty lips that they all seem to have. I’m just not thin.

I’m not saying that these commercials are the only reason I am the way I am. Many women who are bigger have great self esteem. The weird thing is I do too, once I get to know someone. It’s the laughing and pointing that I usually get when I get up in front of people. It may not even be at me, but I still think it is. When it comes to these ad’s though I think one they need to stop showing women in their underwear before 10pm. There are still young kids up, but advertisers don’t care, sex sells and the more kids that have kids the more people their are to buy their products. Yes I said kids that have kids.

Anyway. I really am upset and down all at the same time right now. I hate myself because I can’t lose weight and I hate them for making me feel bad about it. I figured I would write this now as so many people think that advertising doesn’t have an effect on people. The truth is it does.

Things I need to do

Posted by Holly on May 20, 2008 under personal, stuff

I’ve decided I need to make a list of things I need to do over the summer to help with my blogging. One is work on all of my blogs and try to post every day. I have been pretty good with this blog, but my others I have been pretty lax on.

The next thing I know I need to do is work on my Affiliate Programs. I have not had much luck with this type of advertising, but I want to see if I can make it work. I just haven’t had time with school so I’m hoping that I will have time to do some research on how to do affiliate advertising better because I must be doing something very wrong.

The other thing I really want to work on is my forum. I started it almost a year ago and I have no participation anymore. I get why, people don’t have a lot of time, but I think having a new name for blogger love is a start, I have that much done it’s now going to be called Bloggers Cantenia. I just have to decide if I’m going to stick with phpbb3 or switch to invision board. I like having the landing page that invision board has, but if I do that one I have to pay for it. I’ll figure it out, I wish I knew how to code a page well enough to do a landing page for the forum that is there already.

I have a few other things to do but these are my top 3. Hopefully I will be able to get them done this summer and feel like I actually did something useful. School right now just doesn’t feel very useful.

Today, advertise, tomorrow rest

Posted by Holly on May 6, 2008 under business, money

Today I was reading a great blog post about different ways to advertise your business. You can do this by using new ways and ideas instead of the same old business cards. One way to do this is to think about Corporate Gifts. You can give out things to your customers and even employees that have your company logo or website on them. Think more then just a card, think pens, t-shirts, mugs or even a car. I would give the car to an employee to drive to and from work though, not to a customer.

I have used these items to promote things before. I sold Avon at one time and I would had out pens and mugs to people who bought from me. It would have my Avon web address and my phone number. It worked well considering almost everyone around me sold Avon. Thats why I don’t sell anymore. I also have a store for my forum where people can buy things with the forum logo on it. Eventually I’ll start giving away items on my forum to members. Everyone loves free stuff, even if it’s for advertising.

Blog advertising and speeches

Posted by Holly on May 1, 2008 under personal

Yesterday I did a speech on why you should advertise on a blog. This speech had to be from a business perspective so it was actually fun to do. Today though I found out that some of the facts I got may have been wrong. I hate it when that happens. Now I’m thinking crap, what if someone knew the right facts?

So anyway I did get an A on the speech so I’m happy. I just wish I had more time to go over some of the other benefits that I didn’t touch on. Oh well it’s all good. Now it’s on to the debate part of the class, always fun!

Frustration and forums

Posted by Holly on Apr 10, 2008 under personal

As many of you know I have a forum for bloggers and I have worked really hard to get this forum up and running and it was doing well, now it seems no one is active. Is my forum really that bad or is it maybe just a downturn right now? I know a few of the more active members are busy so that may be some of it.

I just wish I knew the secret to getting people to join. I did contest, that really didn’t work well. I’ve given away links and so on. I don’t have any money for advertising I just don’t know. I have one more thing to try and then I may just stop trying and see what happens. I guess I’ll talk to myself a lot. I do that on here anyway!

Get your business noticed

Posted by Holly on Apr 9, 2008 under stuff, website review

I have learned a few things in my design classes and one is if you go into business for yourself you need to be get noticed so your business can grow. Most people know this but they are not sure how to do it. Newspapers and TV work well, but they can be expensive. Many businesses are turning to online directories, advertising and searches to get the word out about their business.

One new site that anyone who has or wants to start a business should check out is MyCityFaces.com. It’s still in beta but it looks very promising. It’s a great way for local people to find your business. There is a great search feature that allows you to search by city, and category. Right now it’s mostly major cities, but there are 3 listed in my state that I’m close enough to drive to. So I think they are doing well. I’m sure once they are out of beta they may look into adding more cities. They have a few listings so far and I really do see this growing into a large site that is visited often by people looking for quality products and services.
