I’m Special!

This morning I recived a comment on my blog from a blogging friend, Tina over at housewife hiccups. She informed me she has givin me the Brillant webblog award.

Brillant Blog

Once an award is received, the rules are as follows:

1. Put the logo on your blog.

2. Add a link to the person who awarded you. (She is also on my blogroll…She’s that good!)

3. Nominate at least seven other blogs.

4. Add links to those blogs on your blog.

5. Leave a message for your nominee on their blog.

So it took me a while to come up with the people for this as I just don’t know that many bloggers that well and I haven’t had time so I was not able to come up with 7 as some I do read already have the award.

Sell Advertising On Your Website

I love seeing good advertising on websites, it makes me think that they actually care what is on their page and how they are represented. I know for a fact it can be hard to get good advertisers to actually pay to be on your site directly and that is why I useĀ affiliate management services to do this. The best part about affiliate networks is that it is easy to get good well known products, services and websites on your site. Of course then the hard part of getting people to buy things though those site begins but thats for another post.

I have found for me that my affiliate networks work the best on my design blog. I don’t make much off of it, but I do get many clicks and interested people. I know right now many people just don’t have the money for the extras, but knowing that they are still interested in them is a good thing for future references. Overall I like affiliate marketing. It adds to the look and feel of my blogs and I hope makes my blogs look more professional.

A Surprise Today

I woke up this morning and found out that my blog was Pay Per Post’s blog of the day. Now I know many don’t even look at that anymore, but I’m kinda happy about it. I think my blog is good and I hope anyone reading it does too.

Anyway I thought I would take the time to thank PPP for everything they have done for me. I am able to now pay off my debt and maybe even buy a home thanks to them. I wouldn’t have been able to do any of this if I had not found them and started doing paid posting. Right now I would be one of many people in my state looking for work. You can check out my post on Michigan’s Economy by clicking the link.

I have also met some great people along the way and hope to meet more. Thank you to everyone who reads this blog and thanks again PPP for everything you have made possible for me.

Am I boring?

Last night in class we were trying to figure out what I could do for my teaching speech. It has to be business related and I hate it since it’s hard for me to come up with anything. So my friends were trying to help me and one asked what I liked to do. I told her nothing. I really am not passionate about anything anymore. I think it’s because I’m depressed and hate my life. Things will change soon I hope, once I move and am able to be around better people. Anyway, the other girl looked at me and said “your boring! But I mean that in the nicest way.” We all laughed and I said “I know I am” This is very true. I don’t go out, I don’t do much and most of the time the only people I talk to are online and thats not often.

I was thinking about this today and I’m wondering if that is why I don’t have a lot of comments on my blog. Is my blog boring? Could I improve it in some way to make it more interesting to everyone. I have thought about writing a short story one post at a time. Maybe I’ll do that this summer as a feature. Other then that I have no ideas. Anyway I want to ask you, my readers, is my blog boring or is it okay the way it is and I’m crazy?

I have been using SocialSpark for a little over a month now and at first it was cool. We could check things out and actually take opps. Now I’m lucky if I manage to find one that is one I’m willing to wait over a week to do. I think the problem is more that SocialSpark is new and everyone is so excited about it that they jump into it and don’t look back. For me the dynamic pricing is probably the most frustrating part of it. If you reserve an opp at $5 that morning it could be 11 or 15 by that afternoon, just because there are no slots left for it so no one can take it. The other problem with this pricing is that an opp that is $15 when you wait for a slot, may only be worth $5 when you do it. Now if you have never done paid blogging before you may not get why this is an issue. Some advertisers want a lot put into a post and sometimes all of that work is not worth $5 to a blogger, but it may be worth that $15 that the blogger first saw.

My other issue is with sponsorships, Right now I’m waiting on two, one of them is no longer available in the marketplace, but it says I’m still waiting. I guess it would just have been nice to know in the first place that I had to wait for it instead of thinking I had it and it would start up the next day.

Other then that I love social spark I love being able to check out the profiles of people on the network who I may not have known write the blog I read. Some are just fun to read what they have going on. I love how some people have things done like this profile for Mummifiedx5. I think her heading says it all.

The other fun part about socialspark is that you have access to so many blogs, you can find some great blogs to read and learn about the people who write them. They also have a way to sort them by category so you can look for blogs that have to do with travel, sports or music if that is what you want to read about.

Running a business

About 5 years ago I started selling Avon as my first job. It didn’t work out well and only lasted a few months. It was so bad that I sometimes forget it is considered a job. Looking back I realize I made a few mistakes with that job. One being I wasn’t aggressive enough. Everyone and their aunt sells Avon and I couldn’t bring myself to take customers away from other people. I’ve learned since then that you don’t always have to. Sometimes people shop around, sometimes they will send you business if they like you.

Another thing I did not do is use business cards, now I get business cards online. I prefer using vista print as I have ordered many times from them and have been very happy with the product. I have 3 different business cards from them right now and I have found that switching them up a little will make people pick up the card again and maybe check it out. One women I talked with found my design blog when I left a card at her salon. The first time she looked at it, thought is was interesting and lost the card. The next card she picked up because it was the same one. She then forgot to check out the site. The third time she noticed the name of the site on a different designed card and made sure to keep it. The moral of this story, change a few things, but keep the information the same and keep trying to get that information out there.

Get fired for blogging?

I just finished reading an article on Yahoo titled 5 Ways your computer use can get you fired. The first one listed is blogging. Apparently someone was fired because they had an unapproved blog. I found this interesting as I plan on working within the next year as I will have my degree. I do plan on letting anyone I interview for know what I do online as it is on my resume. I also have an interior design blog, the only one I think could cause an issue. Hopefully I can work it so that I can keep the blog and still get a job.

The blogger that was fired worked for CNN, so I do understand why the company fired them at the same time I still think it sucks. The employee though should have known that working in a media field they would be considered a competition and should have gotten permission. Yes we all have a right to do things but when you start covering public people as this blogger did you may be overstepping your work boundary’s.

I believe if it had been a more personal blog, that kept out work related issues or people, the blogger may not have been fired. It just seems strange that you could get fired for blogging.
