What we will get and who it will help.

Posted by Holly on Jan 24, 2008 under Political

Well I’m sad to say I probably won’t be getting any of the help that the government is giving out. I believe I made just under the $3000 limit last year. I think it’s something silly like 2900 or close to it that I made, but at least something is happening. I’m still not sure if it will help, but we will have to see.

It does look like people with children will be getting some extra help. People with children will now get an extra $300 per child, this will help my sister who has 3 kids. She also just had a baby so she will get a very large amount back for taxes. Hopefully she doesn’t waste it!

The bad part is that they are not going to be adding anything to unemployment or food stamps, but doing this has made the government rebate open to more people. I’m not sure what to think about this. I feel that the government really does need to do more, but at the same time I’m sure they are trying to watch their spending. There being responsible for once. I think I’m shocked!

Could this idea help the economy?

Posted by Holly on Jan 18, 2008 under News, Political

I just read this article on CNN about the Bush economic stimulus idea. I’m actually liking what I’m hearing, but at the same time I’m not. Yes I know I can never make up my mind.

What I love

The tax breaks and the rebates, get money into the hands of the people who need it and help them get back on their feet.

Extra help for the unemployed and food stamp recipients. These are the people who need the money.

Business tax breaks, but only for investments

This would be a temporary program. This is something I like because I don’t want to see the government get more into debt.

What I don’t really like

Eliminating the 10% tax income bracket. It’s not a bad idea, but it won’t help the poor people who really need the help.

The unemployment benefits, yes I know I listed that as a like but I also don’t like it. What it sound like, and correct me if I’m wrong here, is that you only will get the unemployment benefits if you collect unemployment. Many people who have lost their jobs don’t qualify for unemployment so they won’t get the extra help.

I like the rebates and the idea of giving this money to the middle class and poor, they need it the most and would spend it the quickest. I know I would pay off alot of my debt if I had an extra $1000 or so. If you don’t count my student loans I could pay off almost everything I had by April or May. I have one credit card I wouldn’t be able to pay. I would then maybe be able to add more to the economy by getting a new car and making payments on it. Right now I can’t do that.

As much as I complain about our president I think he’s actually on the right track here. Yes I said it.
