I Think It’s Time To Face Facts

I have decided that I’m not going to worry about passing my math class. I’m going to do my best, but I’m not going to let it stress me out. Here is why, I will not have a job when I graduate anyway. Even if I graduate in 2 years I still will not have a job. The reason is simple. I have only held 2 jobs in my lifetime and I had to work to get those. Apparently I am not the type of person people employ. I’m not surprised as I seem to not be wanted anywhere else either.

Anyway this is not meant to be a depressing post, just my statement that I’m tired of being stressed out. I have a plan that I hope will work. I’m going to keep trying new things online. I’m going to earn enough money to buy the house I want and start doing that for a living. I may eventually start my own design business which in Michigan I can do without a degree. Then once I get some experience I will look for work elsewhere. Yes I will still look for work and there is a reason for this. In order to work as an interior designer in most states I have to pass a test that is kinda like the big test a lawyer has to take. In order to qualify for this test I have to work under someone who has also passed it. Now if Michigan decides to require that you have this test in order to be considered and interior designer then I will have to give up my business anyway or switch to being just a decorator. Meaning i would make less.

So this is my plan as of now. I’m just so tired of worrying about school and being screwed over by Baker time and again. I figure if I’m not going to graduate until I’m 27 I might as well start doing something else, since by that time I really should not be living with my mother anymore!

Believe it or not some business still don’t take credit cards. I ran into one yesterday and was reminded of a speech one of my classmates did last week. Her restaurant does not accept credit cards and they are always turning people away. This is the same thing that happened to me yesterday luckily it was a store so I just left and went somewhere else. Needly to say it’s a store I won’t be going into again as I hardly ever have cash.

It’s actually an easy process to accept credit cards. You just have to subscribe to a service. You get a machine that will read them and your good to go. The company does everything for you. They take out the fees, and send the rest on to you once they get paid. It depends on the credit card company though some will not pay you until the customer pays them.

I know how easy it is to take credit cards, I did it when I sold Avon. I used one of the old manual ones though, at least until I was sent forms for them to fill out instead. I usually encouraged them to just shop online with my website, that way they didn’t worry about me stilling there information. I wouldn’t but I don’t trust many people, so I don’t expect many to trust me.

Business, Business, Business

My speech class this term is centered around business. It’s been really hard for me to do as our teacher just can’t seem to understand how interior design is business related. So I have been having a hard time with topics, but I have learned a few things that are really helpful. One of these being the importance of Business Birthday Cards. These cards can not only be sent to customers, but to your employees as well to make them feel important and cared about. Happy workers mean better work done. At least that is my opinion.

There are many places you can get business cards, one is a website called the Gallery Collection. I like this site because they offer low prices since the cards are ordered directly from the publisher. You don’t pay a middle man. The other great thing is that the cards are high quality. They don’t skimp on anything. This really can help your business by showing the customer that you care about the quality of the work you do and the products you buy. This is something many business don’t think about, so take a step up and do something different.

Looking for a web host, research

I am always looking for ways to save money. I do though want to get good service or a good product in return, that is why I always do research into things before I buy anything. One of these things is web hosting. I have heard so many people talk about linux web hosting and free blog hosting and I just got so confused at one point that I was almost ready to quit. Luckily I did some research. I checked out each hosting website, I got an idea of the cost of each one and narrowed them down from there, then I started reading other blogs like web hosting rating, to see what other people thought of these hosting companies.

I finally decided on blue host and my blog was born, well my new one anyway. I have been with blue host for just about a year and I’m very happy with them. I have tried a few other services since then with some new sites but nothing has made me change yet. One thing I did learn was that just because a hosting company works for me, doesn’t mean it will work for you so check into what you are getting and make sure it is really going to give you what you need.

My new credit card, not so good

I was excited I got a new credit card and I was going to be responsible with it so that I could start to build my credit back up. I got it and now I can’t use it. Yep I finally got approved and I screwed it up because I forgot with credit cards they want you to call from the number you used to sign up with it. I wasn’t thinking and put my online voice mail number down as I don’t like to give out my moms phone number.

Since I can’t call from that number I can’t activate the card and can’t reapply for 6 months. I’m hoping by then I will have paid off most of my credit issues and be able to get a card that doesn’t charge the really high fees. I’ll live it’s not like I need the card. I have decided though that when I do get another credit card I’m going to do some research, There is a great site where you can get a credit card rating for different credit cards. You can also find different types of credit cards for your needs, like gas reward cards or cards that give you points. I’m thinking the gas or the money back ones would be good for me. I don’t really need the points ones as I would use the card with some of the online things I do anyway. I may also check into a business one that I can use for my blogs and forum. That way it’s all separate and I don’t have to worry about it come tax time. I think that will work out well.

I love learning new ways to make myself look and feel as good as I can. One way that many women do this is by wearing Makeup, but it seems the rules change so much and we just can’t always keep up with them. I love learning the new tricks and am always looking for good websites that give out great information that I can actually use.

In a year I’m going to be looking for not just a job, but a career. I want to look my best for my interviews as the design profession is very competitive and every little bit helps. So not only am I going to be working on making my portfolio better and hopefully available online. I’m going to also be working on making me look better. I’m working on losing weight, slowly buying nicer clothing. I’m not doing too much of that since when I lose the weight I won’t be able to wear any of it. I’m also learning some of the makeup tricks that work in a business setting. I know people say looks shouldn’t matter, but the truth is they do.

Today, advertise, tomorrow rest

Today I was reading a great blog post about different ways to advertise your business. You can do this by using new ways and ideas instead of the same old business cards. One way to do this is to think about Corporate Gifts. You can give out things to your customers and even employees that have your company logo or website on them. Think more then just a card, think pens, t-shirts, mugs or even a car. I would give the car to an employee to drive to and from work though, not to a customer.

I have used these items to promote things before. I sold Avon at one time and I would had out pens and mugs to people who bought from me. It would have my Avon web address and my phone number. It worked well considering almost everyone around me sold Avon. Thats why I don’t sell anymore. I also have a store for my forum where people can buy things with the forum logo on it. Eventually I’ll start giving away items on my forum to members. Everyone loves free stuff, even if it’s for advertising.
