Christmas Shopping For My Dad

Posted by Holly on Nov 24, 2008 under Christmas shopping

My father passed away a few years ago, but I consider myself lucky to have my step dad in my life. I thought this year I could get him something he can use, since we no longer can get him what we use to because of health problems.  The sad part is because I now have to fix my car I can’t afford much, the good news is my sister said that we could go in together. That helps but she doesn’t have much money either. I again went searching for a good online sale and again ended up at buy.com.

What I found was the Wenger Impulse Notebook Case and after watching the vedio about the features I think it would be perfect for my step dad who is a truck driver. Since he is always on the road he needs something that is easy to carry, holds up well and will actually store everything without putting it all over the place. He does have a laptop bag now, but it’s starting to fall apart from wear.

I can’t decide yet if this is the gift. I have to talk to my sister once she gets home from visiting her boyfriends cousin in Tennessee. She’ll be home in 2 days so I’m hoping it’s still available when she gets back.

Do Your Holiday Shopping With Kmart

Posted by Holly on Nov 22, 2008 under Christmas shopping

I love going to Kmart. They have some great things and it’s affordable. I don’t get there much as there is not one very close to me. I usually stop if I have time when I go to class. I was thinking of checking them out to see what I can get some people for Christmas, but I now have decided I am going to order online, maybe you should too.

Here is why: Kmart is having a huge online sale where you get 10% off items in the following categories;

- womens plus sleepwear
- womens attention brand
- girls tops
- ALL juniors
- boys tops
- mens shirts and bottoms
- big mens shirts and bottoms
- infant and toddler bedding

The downside to this is that it only is available online though November 26th. These are also the only departments that are doing this, but if you shop around the site you can find ornaments that will give you an extra discount, these will be available till Christmas. I love this idea it’s kind of like a fun game that will save you money. Okay so I’m just into the whole treasure hunting thing and I get a kick out if this. Who wouldn’t though if you could save some more on your Holiday shopping?

Chirstmas Shopping For My Brother

Posted by Holly on Nov 21, 2008 under Christmas shopping

I have been trying so hard to figure out something to get my little brother for Christmas. It wouldn’t be so bad if he didn’t want all of the expensive things in life! Of course the other day he did say he thought it would be cool if we went into a depression, so maybe he doesn’t want anything for Christmas then right? A girl can hope, but I don’t think he thought that comment though, so I have been looking around a lot at what is for sale online and in the stores and I’m not finding a whole lot, so this morning I decided to check my favorite site, buy.com and see if they had anything.

I did find something that may be useful to him and his friends it’s a two way radio for when they head out into the woods behind our home. His friends all have cell phones, but my mom won’t let him have one until he either gets a car and a job or when he’s 18. I think it would be a great gift for him and at the same time it would be something very useful. I am trying very hard this year to get things that are useful to everyone, not just nice frilly stuff. So far I’m doing a good job, we’ll have to see how long that last.

Did You Know That Sears Has Lay Away?

Posted by Holly on Nov 16, 2008 under Christmas shopping

I didn’t know that. I think why is that I just don’t go to sears that much, but I think now that I know they have lay away I will be there this year looking for Christmas gifts for everyone, well at least a few of them anyway. I have seen some great stuff at sears and since you only have to have 15 dollars or 20% down it’s really easy to get things paid off. One thing I love about layaway is that you can pay off over time, sometimes I do it just because I want the item and can’t pay for it right then, but am worried about it being gone. Sometimes I use it to hide gifts from people. This year I do kind of need to hide a few things, so I will probably be using this service. Yes I know it doesn’t last until Christmas, but it’s closer then bringing it home this week or next week.

Sears Layaway does have some restrictions, you can’t put personal computers and home appliances in there is also some other things you cant put in I suggest checking their website before you buy.

I have found a few things I want to buy people online, I just hope they are in the store. One I would love to get my mom is the Kalorik 10 Cup Coffee Maker with Grinder, she needs a new coffee maker and this would just be really cool for her. I also found a great gift for my sister a Hamilton Beach Wave Power™ Plus 12-Speed Blender. She doesn’t have a blender and this could really be helpful. I also found something I would like, but the rest of my family could use to. I want a Deni Freshlock Vacuum Sealer so that I can cook up healthy food and have it on hand and ready to go. It would just be nice to have that option. I’ll have to get to sears soon to see if I can actually get any of these items.

Holiday Shopping

Posted by Holly on Oct 16, 2008 under Christmas shopping

I have been thinking more and more about shopping for Christmas. I am trying to decide if I should go to Kmart and put some things on layaway or if I should wait and just buy what I can afford in December when I’m not trying to come up with gas and food money for school. I’m sure I’m not the only one worrying about this, but in my house we always struggle every year to get gifts, I remember a few years ago when I was so excited because I had $10 to spend on each person instead of $5. I realized how sad this was after talking with some people yesterday who were complaining because they only have $50 for each person, or their parents have told them that can’t buy them that $200 coat or phone that they want.

Part of me is happy I have had to deal with going without, I think it does make me a better person, but it still sucks when you can’t afford basic things, and then you can’t afford to buy extra stuff on holidays. I mostly hate that I can’t get something good for my niece and brother, my brother is 15 and is old enough to know he can’t get things he wants, but he didn’t get much as a kid since my sisters wanted so much. My niece is still young and should get something good. Maybe I’ll win the lottery that would be nice!

Great Prices On Great Products

Posted by Holly on Sep 27, 2008 under shopping

I love a good sale and right now there seem to be a few going on as companies are trying hard to get you to buy their products. Some are doing a good job while others are just not cutting it. I’m still not happy with a certain clothing store, even though I have found items I would like to buy, but will be putting it off until after I’m sure I have enough gas to get to school for the next 2 weeks. It seems with the economy being the way it is, people are looking for a good deal on everything from gas to food to clothing. Of course business are also hurting because they can’t sell these items at prices they would give them huge profits because no one will buy them.

With the economy being so bad I have once again been looking at Buy.com for Christmas gifts and things for myself. I found a few things that I could get people for Christmas and I have found some really great wireless phones that I will need when I move. They are only $29 and would work great for me in a new home. I have a phone, but it’s not the worlds best and it seems to want to cut out a lot. I also have one with an answering machine, but I haven’t used it in over 2 years and am not sure if it even works anymore. I know eventually I will have to get new phones and at this price I’m thinking eventually may be sooner then I thought.

Another long day

Posted by Holly on Dec 20, 2007 under Christmas shopping, stuff

Once again we went Christmas shopping, this time the day went much better and we got alot more done. It was also was not as busy as yesterday and people were alot nicer, my faith in humanity has been restored!

There were a few interesting points to our day. Mostly people playing with my nephew because he’s so cute, but there was a man who thought my nephew was my baby and he kept telling me I needed to plan for the future. He handed me a thing about getting life insurance quotes and kept going on about planing for college and all that. Once he took a breath I was able to tell him the baby was not mine, but I would give my sister the information.

Anyway we were able to get some great Christmas gifts and came up with a few more that we can get later. Hopefully we can do that soon so were not out Christmas eve trying to get things done. We will have to wait and see!
