I thought as an interior design student that I should learn more about home networking. It’s the way of the future that is here now and if I want to design good homes then I should at least have an idea of what things like CAT6 and KVM switch are.

Even though I may end up starting my own design business as I still don’t think I will be able to find work. I want to offer something that others can’t or don’t know about and if I can help when it comes to networking or selling a home then I want to do that. I figure adapt to the times and you will succeed. If you don’t do it, you will fall and fall hard. I personally would like to stay in the “I’m doing Okay” area. Not come back to the “life sucks and I’m in debt” area.

I finally found a cool product to write about on my design blog, complete with picture. I wrote out the information for it uploaded the picture aligned it and published the post. When I went to view it the post looked like crap! The image was above everything and I can’t change it. Now I have it sitting under what I have written instead of to the right of it as I wanted it.

So far everyone has told me, check your style sheet and make sure images are not aligned to the left. Well my style sheet says nothing about images so not helpful, that and I checked my other 3 blogs that have been updated and have had the same issue. So no it’s not my style sheet.

I love using images on that blog as it helps people see what I’m talking about, now my blog looks like crap and there is nothing I can do about it until wordpress gets off their butts and fixes this. Luckily I have not updated this blog so I don’t have to worry about it here, I’ve thought about moving back down on my design blog, but I don’t want to mess it up. It just sucks!

I am sitting at school right now working on some old projects that I need to update for my portfolio. I’m really excited about doing this because I need to have a good portfolio to show when I graduate. One thing I am working on is a kitchen and I forgot how much fun I had putting this kitchen together and I thought I would share with all of you a great site I found where you can get some nice stuff for your home.

American Home Crafthas a really nice selection of cabinetry and they also have some great prices. I love the styles and wish that I could use them in my designs, but the design program I am using won’t let me. They offer more then cabinetry though, they also have siding and windows. Really everything you would need to redo your home.

I may be ordering a few things from them soon as my mom is thinking of redoing our rental unit. I’m hopeing she makes up her mind soon. I would love to add that to my portfolio too.

I love learning new ways to make myself look and feel as good as I can. One way that many women do this is by wearing Makeup, but it seems the rules change so much and we just can’t always keep up with them. I love learning the new tricks and am always looking for good websites that give out great information that I can actually use.

In a year I’m going to be looking for not just a job, but a career. I want to look my best for my interviews as the design profession is very competitive and every little bit helps. So not only am I going to be working on making my portfolio better and hopefully available online. I’m going to also be working on making me look better. I’m working on losing weight, slowly buying nicer clothing. I’m not doing too much of that since when I lose the weight I won’t be able to wear any of it. I’m also learning some of the makeup tricks that work in a business setting. I know people say looks shouldn’t matter, but the truth is they do.

Tomorrow at school there is an expo where some projects will be shown to people who may hire someone. Unfortunately I have not had many projects since I started back so my only hope to be shown in the expo is to get our project done today and get it looking really good.

The problem comes with the rest of my group, well not all of them the other girl is worried about it to. I don’t blame the other two for not wanting to do anything, they are freshman and still have 4 years before they have to worry about finding a job. They will have many more projects to do that may look better anyway. While the other girl and I are graduating next year I believe and both will have to be out looking for work. She wants this done well and it will be, but I work amazing under pressure and it will look good and be done tonight.

After being out of school and looking for work for a year I know how hard it is to find a job, the architecture world that the guys will be in may not be as bad, I don’t know. I do know that the interior design profession is very competitive and hard to get a decent job in. Lets put it this way, before I started school I worked at walmart with 4 women who had gone to school for interior design. I knew before I started school this would be hard.

We will see what happens I guess. I leave here around 11 for the 2 hour drive and I won’t be back until 11pm or later. I’m starting to get tired of driving this drive and I love to drive. Oh well.

I love to hear when business decide to go green. I think many more need to think about it. The cost is really not that great and the benifites are amazing. It helps wild live and makes a better envirionment for your workers and visitors. You want people to feel good when they come into your place of business and for some knowing it’s designed green will make them feel really good about comming in and checking out your product or service.

Shangri La Gardens and Nature Center is one business that has gone green, yes a nature center is usually a very green place, but most of the time time buildings and other stuctures are not built to fit into the green design trend. In this case these buildings are. In fact Shangri has been one of the few projects to be Pink flowerawarded with the U.S. Green Building Council’s Platinum certification for LEED®-NC. This is something they should be proud of and you should want to see more of. Not only is this great for their Public Relations, but it’s good for the animals and plants in the nature center since they benifit from the lack of chemicals and other mass produced products that could harm them.

Shangri La Gardens is located in Orange Texas just east of Houston. It’s along the gulf cost and in a great part of Texas. I have never been there but I have always wanted to go to that part of Texas. The only part I have been to is Dallas and just north of there. But I have heard the gulf area is a great part to be in. A little humid maybe but still worth a trip. Now it seems I have a new reason to go there. I would love to check out this nature center and see what exactly they have done to go green.

In a few of my classes we have been talking about how important it is to have good interior design in drug treatment centers. If you think about it the center needs to have a calming effect so that people are less likely to go crazy because of withdraws. It makes sense to me as I have seen a few people do very strange things when trying to kick the drug addiction.

I think this is one reason I try not to take to many pills at once. I don’t’ want to have to go though that. Many people are telling me to check out pills for my depression and I have considered it. I just really would like to be off of a few before I add more. I don’t think I would get addicted to anything as I’m not the type, but you never know. For anyone still worried about me, if I start to get worse I promise I will get on pills. Right now I’m trying something else. Someone told me to get outside more as sunshine helps make you happy, so I took the dog for a 20 minute walk since I’m trying to lose weight also. I think I’m going to do it again tomorrow I’m in a great mood right now!
