I regret that I didn’t cover this when it happened, unfortunately I was busy with school and forgot. But last month 4 nooses were found on Central Michigan’s campus. This school is only an hour’s drive from me and it’s hard to think that this has happened so close to home. CNN has an article on it if your interested.

The story was on the local news tonight so I was reminded that I wanted to write on it, since I did a  short post on the Jenna issue that happened just a few weeks before this.  You can check it out here: A March on Jena. This incident is very similar to that one. Mostly because of the nooses involved. It has caused many to stand up and protest that nothing has been done. According to the news story today, they are investigating and a student did step forward to say they did it. They also claim it’s a Halloween prank.

The problem is it was done days after Halloween and that has caused people to doubt the story. I agree the student should be punished, but they do need to investigate to see exactly what was meant by it. Yes a College student should know better, but maybe they did think it was just a prank that would be forgotten, maybe it was a racist act. We will not know until they look into it, even then we may never know.

I am happy the student stepped forward, but I think they should at least give an apology to the black student population and an apology to the citizens of Michigan who now may be looked at differently then we once were. As soon as I know more about what is going on with this event, I will try to post about it. Hopefully within a few hours of hearing about it, instead of weeks!
