I just read this article on CNN about the Bush economic stimulus idea. I’m actually liking what I’m hearing, but at the same time I’m not. Yes I know I can never make up my mind.

What I love

The tax breaks and the rebates, get money into the hands of the people who need it and help them get back on their feet.

Extra help for the unemployed and food stamp recipients. These are the people who need the money.

Business tax breaks, but only for investments

This would be a temporary program. This is something I like because I don’t want to see the government get more into debt.

What I don’t really like

Eliminating the 10% tax income bracket. It’s not a bad idea, but it won’t help the poor people who really need the help.

The unemployment benefits, yes I know I listed that as a like but I also don’t like it. What it sound like, and correct me if I’m wrong here, is that you only will get the unemployment benefits if you collect unemployment. Many people who have lost their jobs don’t qualify for unemployment so they won’t get the extra help.

I like the rebates and the idea of giving this money to the middle class and poor, they need it the most and would spend it the quickest. I know I would pay off alot of my debt if I had an extra $1000 or so. If you don’t count my student loans I could pay off almost everything I had by April or May. I have one credit card I wouldn’t be able to pay. I would then maybe be able to add more to the economy by getting a new car and making payments on it. Right now I can’t do that.

As much as I complain about our president I think he’s actually on the right track here. Yes I said it.

Last night I sat and watched the debate, Yes I watched the whole debate. Why? Well I thought that I might learn something and I did, but I still am not sure who I am voting for. I know who I am not.

Right now I am leaning more toward the Democrats, but I don’t know who I am going to vote for. All of the candidates made great points that I agree with. One being that health care in the united states is broken and needs to be fixed. What surprised me was that I agree with the Republican way to do it, and the democrat ways of doing it. Do I think government should take over health insurance. Yes, but they need strict regulations and if they can work with the insurance companies already here then maybe we can get both cheep health care and keep the good health care we have.

The Economy was another topic that interested me, I don’t think they covered it enough though. I have been saying for the last 3 years that the United states was going to go into a recession. Our president has ignored the signs and now we are in trouble. Yes he is now trying to find a way to stop it. But I think it just might be too late. The candidates all had some great ideas and of course many would probably help fix the economy. I loved it when one candidate asked “what happened to the democratic party? They use to be the party of the people.” I agree that the image has changed, but some of the ideas for the economy prove that these people still see the core values of there party. Tax cuts for the middle class and more taxes for the wealthy, the wealthy have money, they can afford to eat and pay there bills. Middle class people cant. My family is struggling again after just being able to get on their feet for once. My mother thought she might be able to retire by the time she is 70, but now it doesn’t look like it. She may NEVER be able to retire. Thats a sad thought, but a truth.

They of course covered the war, the Republicans in support of what is going on the Democrats against it. I agree with the Democrats that the solders need to be brought home as soon as possible, but with a plan and without causing ciaos in Iraq. I have said before that the only way to get Iraq to do anything and start taking responsibility for their own country is to pull out our troops and show that we will not be there forever.

I found the debate enlightening, but still not helpful for me. Of course I will not be voting in the Michigan primary because we have been told that unless we vote for a candidate our vote will not be counted. I am a Hillary supporter but at the same time, I’m not sure she is the one I want in office yet. I like her views but there are others I like as well. Having one choice is not right. Knowing that my vote will not matter is a huge turn off in this election. Michigan has had enough problems, why punish us for something our government decided to do. We didn’t vote to have the primary’s moved. The government choose it.

That is why I like that some candidates have come to the conclusion that the people need to be more involved in government and feel like they are more involved. If not the whole foundation of this country is being ignored and could be lost forever.

In one of the forums I belong to there is a discussion about taxes and how they are going to keep going up, guess what they are, at least until this war is over and we stop spending money on it. I keep hearing about how all of the Democratic ideas are going to cost us tons of money, guess what, if the war is over, the trillions of dollars that is going to that can go to all of these ideas, there may even be some left over!

I don’t think that Americans really know what the government is spending on the war, war is expensive and people take advantage of that. Trust me it does not cost a billion dollars to build a few tanks. There paying not just for equipment but for the solders to be there, there paying for there food and housing, think about it. Way too much is being spent on another country and we the citizens of the United states are put on the back burner, as our country goes into a recession, our president only cares about his oil stock and trying to make himself look good in the history books, guess what it’s not going to happen, give up!

My biggest pet peeve is that people complain about paying there taxes, but they want these services that taxes provide, the public school system, roads, bridges and so on. If we don’t pay taxes for them they will NOT be there!

Maybe we could switch to a private school system so that only the rich will get an education, pretty much we can go back to medieval times and live like that. Since doing private schools would probably cost parents around $10,000 per child, per year. Do you pay that in taxes? Probably not.

I’m only 24 and I get it. Stop being so greedy money is not everything, if you have enough to put a roof over your head, have a running car and food, then you have enough to live on, get rid of the other home and the 3 vacations a year and try living on minimum wage. You don’t like that idea do you?
