No it’s not valentines day, it’s national wear red day. This is a day sponsored by the American Heart Association. This day is meant to raise awareness about heart disease in women.

There are many ways that you can take care of your heart. The following is from a newsletter that is on the Associations website.

  • Get regular checkups.
  • Know your blood pressure and cholesterol numbers.
  • Follow your doctor’s recommendations for diet and exercise.
  • Take prescribed medications as directed.
  • If you smoke, quit now.
  • Get at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity each day. Join our 12-week physical fitness program at goredforwomen.org.
  • Eat a heart-healthy diet, including fruits and vegetables, whole-grain foods and fish.
  • Limit food high in saturated fats and dietary cholesterol.
  • Limit your salt intake to 2300 mg of sodium a day.
  • If you drink alcoholic beverages, drink in moderation — an average of no more than one drink a day for non pregnant women.

I will be wearing my favorite red shirt today. I also will be adding a few minutes onto my exercise routine and heating good heart healthy meals. yes I do that most of the time anyway, but I’m really going to watch it today and hopefully continue to. If your looking for some great heart healthy tips check out this article on yahoo.

If your wearing red today let me know with a comment.
